Job Match

I worked on building an MVP as a product designer on the project for 8 months. Job Match (mobile app) is a project created as part of my UX/UI design studies. The goal was to develop a mobile app that would allow IT professionals to find jobs more efficiently, providing the ability to search and explore vacancies based on their experience and preferences, as well as communicate on the platform — from texting to video interviews.

The Challenge

The main challenge is to improve the interaction between the employer offering a vacancy and the specialist actively looking for a job. The task was to create a job search platform focused on IT specialists. Problems faced by users: JobMatch as a mobile application was to become a tool that improves the interaction between the employer and the candidate: the employer finds the right specialist faster, and the user finds a suitable vacancy. The main goal is to make the job search simple, fast and convenient for users.

Users face several key problems:

  • Many platforms do not allow you to communicate directly with the employer or recruiter within your personal account.

  • Lack of a personal account function, where the employer can be the first to find a candidate and start a dialogue.

  • Inconvenient filters that rarely provide relevant job search results.

  • Lack of ability to save interesting vacancies in your account, and for employers - to save resumes of selected candidates.

  • Unclear or unnecessary functions for hiding personal data, which complicates the job search.

  • Lack of notifications about new vacancies, which complicates tracking new offers.

  • Users do not receive personalized recommendations that would help find suitable vacancies faster.

  • Communication with employers takes place outside the platform, which complicates interaction.

Process

I started the project by thoroughly researching the job search platform market to gather as much information as possible about the user experience and ways of interacting with job search apps and websites.

The creation process:

  1. Conducted a competitor analysis;

  2. Conducted interviews and user research;

  3. Formulated hypotheses and ideas to use in development;

  4. Drafted user scenario maps and created wireframes;

  5. Built an interactive prototype (checking the flow and interaction with the main idea);

  6. Developed the visual part (UI);

  7. Conducted user testing to validate the concept.

Solution

The solution is to create an application that makes job searching simple and fast, as well as to provide comfortable and clear communication between the candidate and the employer - clear and convenient.

The application should provide:

  • A minimalist interface without overloading the user.

  • A neutral palette with bright accents for action buttons.

  • Simple onboarding that helps to quickly master the functionality.

  • Focus on quick job search and easy response.

  • A convenient and flexible filter that selects relevant offers.

  • Communication function (chat): the employer or candidate can be the first to start a dialogue and

  • send a message.

  • The main search engine with an intuitive interface.

  • A personal account with the ability to save interesting vacancies and resumes.

  • Chat in the personal account for convenient interaction. Useful tips and articles for candidates.

  • Notifications that can be turned on or off.

  • All communication with employers takes place within the platform, which greatly simplifies the job search process.

Key takeaways

After eight months of working on the design and development of the app, I learned how to combine user research with visual design and realized how important it is to test even early prototypes. The created app demonstrates how simple solutions can make the job search process more convenient and enjoyable.
